IN THE NEWS

Thanks Seven Network for sharing how we’re helping regional communities on the NSW South Coast prepare for Summer with the launch of the state’s first community co-designed microgrid.

Residents and businesses in coastal communities at Bawley Point and KIoloa, will now be able to power themselves independently during bushfires, storms and peak holiday periods with our innovative solution.

The community microgrid acts as a self-contained energy system by harnessing renewable energy from local rooftop solar, home-based batteries and a 3MW grid-connected battery located between the two towns. During an outage, the microgrid is activated, drawing electricity stored in household batteries to keep the power on while the network is restored.

Officially launching the community microgrid, Minister for Climate Change, and Energy, the Hon. Penny Sharpe, MLC, said, “It’s a very different solution to poles and wires. This is not the future, it’s here and now.”

Endeavour Energy CEO Guy Chalkley said “I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last two years co-designing this microgrid alongside local residents and businesses. This is a first for NSW, and once proven successful, will become a benchmark for similar towns right across the state.”

The $8M Bawley Point and Kioloa community microgrid is funded by Endeavour Energy and the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery (BLER) Fund, part of the $4.5 billion bushfire support program co-funded by the Federal and NSW Governments’.
