Endeavour Energy flood and restoration plan update - 9 March 2022 - 9:30pm

In response to extreme weather across large parts of its network area, Endeavour Energy continues to keep customers and communities safe and restore power to homes and businesses where possible.

Flooding

To help flood-affected customers stay up-to-date with continuing efforts to restore power to their homes and business, Endeavour Energy has released its flood restoration plan. This plan estimated provides customers with power restoration times for their area and will be updated regularly as new information comes to hand.

With weather easing today, flooding on the Hawkesbury, Nepean, Colo and Macdonald Rivers have reached peak levels, which will enable Endeavour Energy crews to assess damage from tomorrow, where water levels allow access.

Aerial patrols will also start the process of scoping flood and storm damage across the Hawkesbury and Macdonald Valley regions to start the process of safely restoring power where it is possible. It will take time to safely re-energise power to 4,200 flood affected homes.

StormsIn the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands regions, we have now restored power to nearly 6,000 homes affected by last night’s storms.

Extensive road closures and localised flooding has hampered restoration efforts in the Kangaroo Valley which will require further work tomorrow to have power back on to the remaining 290 properties.

As the recovery continues, we would like to thank our customers for their ongoing patience and understanding as this important work continues. Endeavour Energy appreciates the many messages of support for our teams working hard to safely restore power to the many homes and businesses impacted by extreme weather over the past seven days.

Customer safety

  • as rain is not expected in flooded areas in coming days, Endeavour Energy is reminding residents travelling across floodwaters to look up, as well as in the water, for powerlines. Always stay at least 8 metres clear You don’t need to touch powerlines to sustain serious injury or be killed if you get too close
  • treat all powerlines as 'live' and dangerous by keeping at least 8m clear of them. Never drive across fallen powerlines
  • avoid all contact with wires that are hanging low or on the ground, dangling in floodwaters or tangled in trees
  • if using portable generators, please ensure they are located outside of your home and well away from open windows to avoid deadly exhaust fumes entering your home. Generators should never be connected to switchboards unless there is an isolation switch installed by a licensed electrician. This is to avoid sending electricity back up powerlines and making isolated parts of the network dangerous for workers and the broader community.
