Important Safety Information for Flooded Properties – 28 March 2021

We are visiting flooded properties to conduct a free safety inspection of your electrical switchboard.

After this inspection, you will be left an inspection report detailing the necessary steps you must take to have power safely restored.

Until your property is thoroughly dry and has been checked by a licensed electrician, you must not:

  • use any electrical appliances which were flooded
  • handle any wet electrical equipment
  • replace circuit fuses or switch power on to wiring or equipment which has been flooded.

Our safety inspection report will show you if you need to follow either of the following steps to safely re-energise your property.

1. No evidence of flood damage
We have turned the power off at the main switch. Although we have not identified any issues, if you have any concerns regarding your internal wiring or appliances please engage a licensed electrical contractor to thoroughly check your internal wiring before turning on the main switch.

If your electricity meter has been damaged, we will temporarily bypass the meter and ask your retailer to arrange a replacement.

2. Evidence of flood damage to your electrical installation
If we have removed your service fuse, turned off your main switch and disconnected you from the network in the street, you must engage a licensed electrical contractor (Level 2 ASP) to thoroughly check all aspects of the internal electrical wiring of your property and re-energise when safe. The type of licensed electrical contractor you require depends on how your property is connected to the electricity network:

  • underground - Level 2 Accredited Service Provider category 2B
  • overhead - Level 2 Accredited Service Provider category 2C

The contact details of Level 2 ASPs working in your areas to complete this work is attached here.

The ASP undertaking the work will receive a $350 reimbursement directly from Endeavour Energy towards this work. Rectification of any damage to your switchboard, wiring or appliances will have to be carried out by a licensed electrical contractor or an ASP at your cost.

When this work is completed, the licensed electrical contractor will leave you a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) and restore supply to your premise, as well as provide Endeavour Energy with a notification of the completion of this important step.

Please call us on 131 003 if you have any questions. For further safety information about what to do when returning to your property after a flood, see the NSW State Emergency Service website here.
