Power update – 18 January - 6:00am
Major incident update – 6am Saturday
- 6,741 Endeavour Energy customers are without power this morning across Endeavour Energy’s region
- The worst affected areas are centred in South-West and Western Sydney suburbs but damage is widespread and includes some customers who remained without power overnight from Wednesday night’s damaging lightning storm
- Yesterday, an additional 26,000 customers were impacted by gale force winds across the Illawarra, Western Sydney and Blue Mountains. Supply to 16,000 of these customers was restored by crews working late into Friday night.
- There are more than 300 electrical hazards that need to be inspected, patrolled and repaired in order to complete repairs.
Endeavour Energy has called in additional crews to help repairs to the network following Wednesday’s intense lightning storms. Yesterday’s strong winds compounded the repair effort, and left an additional 26,000 customers without supply. More than 16,000 of these customers are now restored.
Advice to customers
We appreciate your support and patience while we work to safely restore supply. Updates will continue to be provided to customers via SMS and our website, which gives estimated restoration times.
Remember to stay at least 8 metres from any fallen powerlines and other damaged electrical equipment, and be especially careful of damaged infrastructure hidden by fallen trees, branches, and other storm debris.
If customers or anyone residing at their home need power for home medical equipment, we encourage them to check battery supply and consider acting on their back up plan. Customers can contact us now on 131 003 to register for life support.
STAYING SAFE:
- Treat all powerlines as 'live' and dangerous by keeping at least 8m clear of them. Never drive across fallen powerlines!
- Report fallen powerlines immediately by calling us 24/7 on 131 003
- Avoid all contact with wires that are hanging low, on the ground or tangled in trees and other storm debris.
- If you’re using a portable generator for power, stay safe and avoid deadly exhaust fumes entering your home.
