Storm update - 21 July 7pm
Power has now been restored to all but 2,500 homes and businesses.
Crews will continue working into the night after gale force winds interrupted power to around 43,000 customers and caused a trail of destruction over the weekend, bringing down large trees and powerlines across Endeavour Energy's network area.
At its peak, there were 25,500 homes and business without supply at 8:30pm last night and 700 incidents requiring repair.
We are proactively contacting customers who remain without power by SMS (where we have mobile phone number) to check on their welfare and provide an updated estimated restoration time.
Some homes will not be restored until tomorrow due to the extent of the wind damage or remote location.
PLEASE PUT SAFETY FIRST BY STAYING 8 METRES FROM ANY FALLEN POWERLINES.
Treat all powerlines as 'live' and dangerous and stay at least 8m clear. Never drive across fallen powerlines!
We continue to hear from crews that people are ignoring these important safety warnings. Please do not come too close to downed powerlines and other damaged network equipment.
Thank you for your patience as our storm recovery continues.
