Storm update 6 April 2024 5pm
Power has now been restored to more than 10,000 customers across the Endeavour Energy network impacted by last night’s torrential rain and damaging winds.
This ferocious storm caused significant damage with localised flooding, landslides, fallen power poles and trees bringing down power lines across a broad area (see attached photos).
Work will continue into tonight to safely restore power as quickly as possible for the remaining 1,500 customers currently without supply. Due to the extent of damage or flooding, some customers in outlying and inaccessible areas will be without power overnight.
To protect the community, we are continuing to closely monitor rising floodwater levels on the Hawkesbury, Nepean and Colo rivers and have commenced switching off power to low-lying areas that are expected to be inundated later tonight as water spills from Warragamba Dam into the lower parts of the Hawkesbury River.
These isolations are primarily impacting services to irrigation pumps and utility services, however, several hundred homes will also be isolated as floodwaters peak around 9pm in the region below #Windsor, and are expected to be wiithout power for several days until flooding subsides. We are proactively contacting affected customers via SMS (where we have their contact details).
As flooding and bad weather continue, it’s important to remember:
- stay at least 8 metres from any fallen power lines and other damaged electrical equipment, and to be especially careful of damaged infrastructure hidden by fallen trees, branches, and other storm debris.
- never drive through flood water! If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find another way.
- if you or anyone residing at your home need power for home medical equipment, check your battery supply and consider acting on your back up plan. Contact us now on 131 003 to register for life support.
Thank you for your understanding as our storm recovery continues.
STAYING SAFE:
- Treat all powerlines as 'live' and dangerous by keeping at least 8m clear of them. Never drive across fallen powerlines!
- Report fallen powerlines immediately by calling us 24/7 on 131 003
- Avoid all contact with wires that are hanging low, on the ground or tangled in trees and other storm debris.
- If you’re using a portable generator for power, stay safe and avoid deadly exhaust fumes entering your home.
