Election posters on power poles prohibited

Ahead of the Federal Election on 3 May 2025, Endeavour Energy is reminding all candidates and political parties that attaching election posters to power poles, streetlights or other electricity network infrastructure is both unsafe and illegal.

David Campbell, General Manager of Safety & Operations said unauthorised signage on electrical assets posed serious safety risks to the community and to workers who carry out essential maintenance.

“We’re asking all candidates and campaign teams to respect the safety of the public and our workers by complying with NSW laws designed to keep electrical infrastructure safe,” Mr Campbell said.

“Posting signs on power poles and other network equipment is prohibited as it breaches important safety standards and puts lives at risk.

“These actions contravene several laws, including the including the Electricity Supply Act 1995, Electoral Act 2017, and the Graffiti Control Act 2008.”

Mr Campbell warned that Endeavour Energy would remove and dispose of illegal signs, with offending candidates charged up to $150 per sign to cover removal costs.

“The community can help keep the network safe by reporting unauthorised signs,” Mr Campbell said.

“These reports can be made by calling our emergency line on 131 003.

“To assist a prompt response, we’d appreciate reports to include the street address, nearest cross street, a brief description of the sign and—if possible—the pole number.

“This helps ensure the efficient and timely removal of these illegal signs,” Mr Campbell added.
