Endeavour Energy to power Western Sydney International Airport
KEY POINTS
- New digital transmission substation to be built on the site of the new Western Sydney International Airport.
- Capacity of transmission substation to grow as airport expands over coming decades.
- Part of a network of critical energy infrastructure to support Western Sydney growth.
Endeavour Energy will supply electricity to power the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport, scheduled to open in 2026.
Guy Chalkley, Chief Executive Officer, announced today that Endeavour Energy had been awarded the contract to supply a reliable, secure, and sustainable energy solution for the new airport and surrounds.
“As the electricity distribution network that has been powering Western Sydney for over 130 years, we are proud to power one of the largest infrastructure projects in Australia,” he said.
“Our energy solution is designed to meet Western Sydney International Airport’s requirements while also supporting the connectivity to the region which is expected to attract 1.5 million people over the next decade.”
Endeavour Energy will construct a new digital transmission substation and electrical infrastructure to provide electricity to the 1780 hectare airport site and surrounding business hubs.
The high voltage indoor transmission substation will initially provide 120MVA of capacity but has the capability to grow and expand with the airport.
Mr Chalkley said the new partnership would create jobs through delivery of new energy infrastructure and support the economic development of Western Sydney, Australia’s third largest economy.
“Endeavour Energy is deeply embedded in Western Sydney – we understand the region and we know what’s needed to support the growth that is rapidly unfolding here,” he said.
“This is a significant milestone in our journey from a traditional electricity network to a smarter, cleaner, more efficient energy system.”
