Endeavour Energy welcomes the NSW Government’s Consumer Energy Strategy

Endeavour Energy today joined the NSW Government for the launch of its Consumer Energy Strategy – Powering our people and communities, supporting its commitment to create a smarter, cleaner, more affordable and efficient energy system for households and small businesses.

As the electricity distribution network that powers Sydney’s fastest growing regions, including Sydney’s Greater West and the Illawarra, Endeavour Energy’s Chief Executive Officer Guy Chalkley said he welcomed the NSW Government’s plans to make it easier for households and businesses to access energy saving technologies such as solar, batteries and energy efficiency upgrades, and its call for a national review of the regulatory framework for distribution networks to meet changes in the energy market.

“The time is now to act decisively towards a greener, more efficient energy landscape delivered at a lower cost for customers,” said Mr Chalkley.

“One in four homes in the Endeavour Energy network already have rooftop solar, which will easily increase to one in two homes within the next 10 years.

“Battery storage and electric vehicle (EV) ownership are also on the rise, with 91 percent of customers in our network expected to have an EV within the next 20 years, with a high percentage being reached in the next 10 years.

“To cater for these changes, the electricity network has evolved to be more flexible and dynamic, helping customers unlock the full value of their investments.

“Regulatory and compliance frameworks must likewise adapt to support the transition, so distribution networks work harder and smarter to orchestrate energy resources for the benefit of all.”

There was a great opportunity to embrace this transformation to turn them into impactful, scalable and sustainable solutions for customers Mr Chalkley said.

“Greater clarity and certainty would help distribution networks deliver measures to more directly help and support customers get the most from the energy transition.

“By unlocking the huge potential of Customer Energy Resources and enabling distribution network service provider led rollout of community batteries, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and microgrids, we allow distribution networks to do more of the heavy lifting and maximise the investments customers are already making,” Mr Chalkley said.

“Independent modelling by L.E.K. Consulting shows we are better positioned to achieve Australia’s renewables targets by maximising rooftop solar, integrating batteries locally and expanding EV charging infrastructure.

“By 2030, this could save customers around $160 per year while avoiding $7 billion in overall system costs.

“We look forward to working with the NSW Government, investors, policymakers and other stakeholders to leverage the aggregated power of Consumer Energy Resources for enhanced energy security and supply in NSW.”
