Posters on poles prohibited
Candidates in the NSW State election are being reminded that attaching campaign posters to power poles and electrical equipment is unsafe and against the law.
Endeavour Energy has issued the reminder as political parties gear up for the NSW State election on Saturday 25 March 2023.
Scott Ryan, Chief Asset and Operations Officer at Endeavour Energy said placing election posters and material on Endeavour Energy's power poles and other network assets presents serious safety risks and is illegal.
“Endeavour Energy does not permit signs or posters of any type to be attached to power poles, streetlight columns or other electricity network equipment as it risks lives by breaching safe distances to live electrical assets.
“The unauthorised use of the electricity network to post signs also breaches the Electricity Supply Act 1995, the Electoral Act 2017 and the Graffiti Control Act 2008.
“Since this presents a significant safety risk and is not legal, Endeavour Energy will remove and dispose of the signs and invoice the offending candidate up to $150 per sign for the cost of doing so.
“We urge all NSW State election candidates to show respect for worker and community safety around electricity assets and to comply with relevant NSW laws,” he said.
Endeavour Energy is also calling on members of the public to report any unsafe activity around its electrical network on 131 003.
All illegal signs on power poles can be reported to Endeavour Energy at signsonpoles@endeavourenergy.com.au
Reports should include the street address, nearest cross street, details of the sign and, wherever possible, the pole number to enable removal.
