Western Sydney Airport powers up for take off

Highlights

  • Construction commences on the first piece of critical energy infrastructure to power the Aerotropolis.
  • New 90-megawatt major substation (with capacity to power the equivalent of 20,000 homes) to underwrite new industrial and warehousing development in the Aerotropolis core.
  • 11,000 hectares of land transformed into a green city with a vibrant industry generating 200,000 new Western Sydney jobs.

Badgerys Creek 15 August 2022 - Minister for Planning and Homes Anthony Roberts today joined Ingham Property Group and Endeavour Energy to turn the first sod on construction of the new Bradfield Zone Substation.

The new Zone Substation will power Western Sydney, Australia’s fastest growing region with an estimated 1.5 million people expected to be living west of Parramatta by 2036.

Matthew Ramaley, Chief Executive Officer, Ingham Property Group said, “Today marks the start of the delivery of critical enabling infrastructure that will attract new industry to the region to deliver the NSW Government’s target for 200,000 new jobs, with 10,000 jobs to be delivered on this site alone.

“Our team will deliver more than one million square metres of industrial, warehouse, hardstand and office space on our 182 hectares of employment-zoned land. The commencement of this critical piece of essential energy infrastructure is right on schedule as we continue to field good enquiries from turnkey users.”

The Ingham Property Group’s Badgerys Creek Road site was a deer farm purchased by the Ingham family in 1960 which was just after the arrival of Sydney’s first jet service over at Kingsford Smith airport.  Fast-forward to today and the delivery of this development’s new land supply comes on the cusp of Greater Sydney having just been identified as one of the tightest employment land markets in the world.

Guy Chalkley, Chief Executive Officer, Endeavour Energy welcomed the partnership calling the new Zone Substation a significant milestone for the Aerotropolis and sustainable growth in the region.

“We’re working closely with the Ingham Property Group to build a world-class substation that will enable world-class organisations to invest in the Aerotropolis with confidence, knowing sustainable power will be there when they need it,” he said.

“Endeavour Energy’s investment helps provide surrounding areas with a timely supply of serviced employment lands to support new jobs right next door to the new Western Sydney Airport.

“Our goal is to drive the energy revolution in Western Sydney and be the partner of choice for customers seeking leading energy solutions.”

About Ingham Property Group

Ingham Property Group’s origins date back to 1918 when Walter Ingham Sr purchased 42 acres of bushland near present day Casula, in Sydney’s west, for his son to farm. Walter Ingham Jr started a fruit and vegetable farm which was later turned into a modest poultry breeding operation of over 1,000 birds. His sons, Bob and Jack Ingham, built Inghams Enterprises into Australia and New Zealand’s largest vertically integrated poultry operation. Within this business, decommissioned farmland was converted into residential, industrial and commercial developments as urban growth approached.

The Ingham family retained the property development business and just under 900 hectares of land across Australia when Inghams Enterprises was sold to TPG Capital in 2013. This portfolio of landholdings spans New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia.  Ingham Property’s substantial 182-hectare land holding in the Aerotropolis Core at 475 Badgerys Creek Road in Badgerys Creek NSW was purchased in the early 1960s and it is at the centre of our vision to develop our vast pipeline of industrial land into well-capitalised assets to retain in our growing investment property portfolio for the next generations of the Ingham family to manage and redevelop.
